Environmental Protection

We have adopted a policy to ensure that we recycle waste whenever it is reasonable to do so and are constantly striving to set the standards against which others may benchmark. The Company waste management plan will be used to achieve this.

We encourage our suppliers and customers to adopt the best possible environmental practices.

In adopting this policy AM Seafood’s Ltd. commits to the provision of the requisite resources, priorities and training to fulfill its obligations. In commending this policy to employees, the Company seeks to encourage a full sense of shared responsibility for the protection of the environment.

Carbon Footprint

AM Seafoods are committed to lowering our carbon footprint. We are achieving this via several efficient systems we have introduced. A prime example of this is our project to reclaim redundant heat throughout the factories that can be re-cycled and used in our cooking processes.

Another key focus of the business is the up-use and re-cycling of cardboard boxes. Collection and drop-off stations are set up throughout the business so teams can effectively share un-used or slightly damaged boxes.

An energy efficiency plan is implemented throughout the business that we all strive to achieve and better with strong controls in place.

Solar panels

After under-taking research with the assistance of Read and Errington of Blackpool, Shell Recycling arranged for the install in 2012 of a batch of solar panels to the roof of AM Seafoods Cooking Factory roof top. Electricity for the factories is generated from the panels as a result of natural sunlight and used throughout the business.

The aim of installing the panels is to generate enough electricity and reducing our demand on the national grid draw down.

Borehole

Discussions began mid 2013 to discover if a trap of potable water was accessible under the grounds of AM Seafoods properties. In November 2013, with the assistance of JP Whitter and Sons, a borehole was drilled down to 30m below ground level.

The results of the tests and further investigations have proven that the water can be developed and used for non-food contact purposes. Work is also currently being undertaken with external advise to turn this into potable use also.

Water Recycling

As part of Energy Efficiency plans AM Seafoods also concentrate efforts in the collection and use of excess rainwater that can be used in non-food contact areas of the business.

Our plan also includes flush use only systems when toilets are in use rather than timed flushings to prevent excess water usage.
