Two of the directors of Sentinel IT Services, John Worden and Pete Haworth, decided to take on the challenge of cycling Coast to Coast across the UK. The object of the challenge was to raise funds for Trinity Hospice and Brian House which AM Seafoods were delighted to sponsor them for.
The ride was quite an epic through some challenging conditions. Beginning at 6am from Morecambe pier on a warm sunny morning the journey started well, however this was soon to change as they headed towards Settle. Clouds began to roll in as the wind picked up.
Two of the biggest climbs of the day came straight out of Settle and then 10 miles further on as they headed over towards Pateley Bridge with constant gradients of over 20%. From there it was a race into Ripon to take cover for half an hour while a thunder storm rolled over with torrential rain.
It was then a wet and windy ride down to York before turning East for the final section to Bridlington. The final big climb at around 145 miles was Garrowby Hill, 1 mile of 16% gradient certainly made a meal of the already tiring legs!
Finally arriving at Bridlington seafront at approx 8.30pm after clocking up over 11 and a half hrs ride time. The distance travelled from Coast to Coast was 165 miles climbing over 11,000ft which was a fantastic achievement for the team. Smashing the target they set the final figure donated to the two charities was just short of £3,500.
