AM Seafoods Ltd has been working hard with the Welsh and Isle of Man Governments to protect and develop sustainable fishing projects.
The Welsh Government has created a Whelk Task and Finish Group that is focused on putting together a responsible fishing scheme. With collaboration from local fishermen and processing businesses throughout the UK, the first meeting of the group took place in Aberystwyth in July where an open forum was held. Discussions took place regarding the current risks to the whelk fishery and future plans to protect it.
In addition to this AM Seafoods Ltd will also be represented by Chris Reed a senior member of our fleet catching team at a meeting to be held in the Isle of Man on 30th September. The aim of this meeting is further to a July presentation by the Director of Fisheries regarding a proposed offshore wind farm and scientific whelk research that has been undertaken by Bangor University students. The group will meet to discuss the protection of the longevity of fishing in the seas around the island together with helping to develop long term and responsible fishing methods.
